PLAYSTATION Network's to Offer Movies and TV Shows for PS3
Subject: PLAYSTATION Network's to Offer Movies and TV Shows for PS3

New service to expand entertainment offering of PLAYSTATION 3 and PSP giving consumers downloadable content when and where they want itPrint

FOSTER CITY, Calif., July 15, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today launches the company’s new video delivery service on PLAYSTATION®Store for PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems in the United States. Consumers will have the ability to download full-length movies, television shows, and original programming accessible through the PLAYSTATION Store on PLAYSTATION®Network.

With nearly 300 full length movies and more than 1,200 TV episodes, many available in both standard-definition (SD) and high-definition (HD), PLAYSTATION Network’s video delivery service makes PS3 the ultimate entertainment platform and enhances PSP’s status as a portable entertainment marvel. PLAYSTATION Network’s video delivery service will become available later this evening.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) will initially make available to consumers content for video rental and electronic sell-through from top movie studios including: 20th Century Fox, Lionsgate Entertainment, MGM Studios, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros. Entertainment as well as titles for rent from The Walt Disney Studios and a wide-ranging menu of popular titles from a variety of television partners.

“PLAYSTATION Network’s video delivery service capitalizes on the superior value and entertainment potential of PS3 and PSP – not only for gaming enthusiasts, but also for the millions of consumers looking to buy the best, most versatile solution for their home entertainment system,” said Jack Tretton, President and CEO, SCEA. “The collaboration of Sony’s film, TV and entertainment business units, coupled with our hardware and content offerings, provide consumers with entertainment experiences unlike any on the market.”

The video delivery service will have full integration in the PLAYSTATION Network, utilizing the same login, wallet management, and user interface of the newly revamped PLAYSTATION Store. Video will be categorized, for example, by top rating, alphabetical order, television shows, and movies and content is also fully searchable, for example, by title, producer, studio and cast. In addition, PS3’s progressive downloading means users can view content shortly after the downloading process begins. Background downloading is also a feature of PS3, allowing users to access other platform features such as gaming and other XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) content while a video is downloading to their consoles.

20th Century Fox’s “Alvin and the Chipmunks”, Lionsgate’s“3:10 to Yuma”, MGM’s “Rocky”, Paramount Pictures’ “Cloverfield”, Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man”, and Warner Bros. Entertainment’s “10,000 B.C.” are a few of the titles available for electronic sell-through on the video service at launch. Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” will also be available for rent.Additionally, SCEI will be introducing original exclusive content such as Xam’d: Lost Memories, an anime series developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan, delivered in SD and HD.

Consumers who rent a movie from the video delivery service have 14 days to watch the content. Once content playback is started, consumers have a full 24 hours to enjoy their rental. Pricing for rental movies at launch ranges from $2.99 to $5.99, and pricing for purchased movies ranges from $9.99 to $14.99. Sony has also adopted Marlin Digital Rights Management technology, an open industry standard for protecting and managing digital content, to provide consumers with flexible access to their content while ensuring digital rights are protected. Usage rules of the video download service will allow content for purchase to be shared on multiple activated devices including PS3 and PSP systems per PLAYSTATION Network account, depending on the type of content purchased by the user.

One of the biggest value propositions of PLAYSTATION Network’s video delivery service is the ability to transfer digital content onto the PSP from the PS3. For the initial electronic sell-through or rental price, consumers can also transfer content onto multiple devices. The connectivity between PS3 and PSP platforms provides a seamless solution for those looking for entertainment experiences on their own terms – on the go or in their living room – all with a new-found freedom of not having to worry about TV schedules, movie listings or viewing on a desktop PC.

Xbox fans rejoice - Big news at E3
Subject: Xbox fans rejoice - Big news at E3
Editor: fantasy
Date: 18 Jul 2008
Well E3 2008 has kicked off and Xbox fans have some exciting things to look forward to. Big games such as Gears of War 2 and Fable II were covered, along with some new features for Gold members. The anticipated Gears of War 2 is looking awesome and the all-new five-player cooperative mode should keep Gears fans anticipating it's arrival in November. Fable II is complete and the journey begins August with a first-of-its-kind exclusive Xbox LIVE Arcade title where members can get a head start on earing gold for the game. The Fable II Pub Games (available as one download) are:

* Keystone: A combination of Craps and Roulette
* Spinnerbox: An updated take on slot machines
* Fortune's Tower: A "press your luck" style of game

The game will also feature an innovative dynamic cooperative mode, allowing you to invite a friend along to experience the world together.

A partnership with Netflex was also established, allowing gold members free access to movie content. Other new things on the horizon include avatars to express yourself, and game shows like 1 vs. 100 where the game pits one Xbox LIVE member against 100 others from around the world with a live host and great prizes. And let's not forget Resident Evil 5 expected out sometime 2009. The game is looking amazing and if they've done the job right it should be a must-have-game for fans of the series.

Perhaps the biggest news to hit E3 is the announcement of Final Fantasy XIII coming to Xbox! That's right. Sony fans whimper! We have plenty of tissue.

Report: FF Versus XIII development confusion
Subject: Report: FF Versus XIII development confusion
Editor: fantasy
Date: 23 Jun 2008
The Final Fantasy crowd is known as much for its rabid devotion to the franchise as its penchant for dressing up as the more popular characters in the games. With such a devout following, many would consider it unwise to continuously deprive this crowd from the object of its obsession with no sign of relief. However, that's just what Square Enix has been doing since it announced Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII at the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

Most recently, a misinterpreted quote from FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama led many to believe that Final Fantasy XIII would most definitely make it out in 2008. Although Square Enix was quick to quash the rumor, saying that no release date has been announced, work has nonetheless progressed on the much-anticipated PS3 game. And it now appears that progress has interfered with its partner in crime, Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

In a recent interview with Famitsu (translated by numerous sources, including Forever-Fantasy), FF Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura said that those working on the game have been appropriated by the FFXIII team because the latter game is the studio's number-one priority. As such, work on FF Versus XIII will not resume until development on FFXIII has wrapped, according to Nomura. On a positive note, Nomura did say that the FF Versus XIII storyline is essentially complete.

[UPDATE] In a lost-in-translation moment, Square Enix has denied that development on Final Fantasy FF Versus XIII has been bumped to the back burner. "Reports that development for Final Fantasy Versus XIII is on hold are false," a Square Enix representative told European gaming site Eurogamer. "The truth of the situation is that when free, some staff from the Versus team have been helping with the XIII team on development of Final Fantasy XIII. Development for both titles is continuing as originally scheduled."

Though Square Enix has kept both FFXIII and FF Versus XIII on a tight chain, GameSpot's gleaned info can be found in prior coverage.

Analysts are predicting that Take-Two Interactive Software will make $400 million this week on sales of 6 million copies of the crime-drenched videogame. Microsoft is eager to exploit the game, paying $50 million in advance royalties for the right to release exclusive content online. The title also promises to revive interest in the Playstation 3 gaming console, with game critics saying the game looks sharper on Sony's console. But the game is a bust for Nintendo as not a single copy of the game will be played on the Nintendo Wii.
